Supporting the education of as many Syrian children as possible to see that children are not deprived of the opportunity to build their career is one of the top priorities of the relief activities undertaken by some voluntary organizations. Many of these organizations are working very hard in a systematic and well planned manner to see that many children go back to schools and gain access to good education. In order to accommodate the swelling demand, a large number of centers are operating double shifts. A good number of new centers have been opened in places where the existing infrastructure is totally unusable and dilapidated.
A set of works form part of educational support in Syria including reopening schools that have been closed down due to fear of attacks and lack of manpower to run, rebuilding and refurbishing the schools that have been damaged, establishing special sections or schools for the disabled and those with hearing impairment.
Some of the important tasks that need to be accomplished in Syria in the lines of supporting children’s education include reconstructing, remaking and reopening those schools that have been closed down or stopped their operations due to the war crisis; maintaining the usable condition of the infrastructure that is used to run the schools; supplying school uniform and bags to children; supplying of warm clothing for school going children to continue their education without any disruption; supplying teaching kits to the staff involved in educating the children; training the teachers; providing meals at the schools; supplying toys and gift materials; running pre-school nurseries; and offering psychological counseling and support to children who are affected by the situation.
The relief works done by these wonderful organizations are being periodically reviews so that their quality is ensured and also improved wherever necessary. Education support is rather a comprehensive area that would require a lot of resources, money and people to undertake. A large number of schools have even appointed full time student psychological counselors so that the children under traumatic experience are first brought out of their painful situation.
The need for education activities in Syria is huge and therefore a lot of voluntary service organizations are expanding their activities and reach involving more regions and covering more number of children. Most importantly the activities will be fruitful in the lines of furthering the education of Syrian children only when the safety of schools are enhanced and the people are made to confide in the conditions of the schools. Therefore, a huge amount of money goes inside improving the situation in the newly established learning centers.
While a good number of people are already supporting the educational activities in Syria, still a huge participation is called for since the resources to run the activities are not adequate. If the education of the present generation is neglected, a whole population of the next few decades are deprived of their chance to find a decent career and living. While the elders have no rights to deprive the children of their education, it is rather the responsibility of committed humanitarians to involve themselves in this noble cause and find contentment.
